July 18 - Stony Creek Maryland
We are ensconced in a very nice marina with beautiful
facilities. Docking involves backing into the slip and putting lines
on both the pilings off the bow. Fred says that I have to improve my
lasso technique or all the steers will get away. I say, give me a boat
hook and I can handle it. The entertainment from our slip is watching
the boats being taken from their racks and being put in the water and back
on the racks. There is a lot of freighter traffic going by from
Baltimore as well as cruise ships. It is nice to have a car here so we
can do the usual Home Depot, Costco, Staples, Petsmart circuit. Becka
had a pedicure today which I enhanced with nail polish this afternoon.
The humidity and temperature are really wearing on us. We played golf yesterday with a heat index of 106 degrees, thank goodness there was some shade. It is no fun to be dripping with sweat all the time. There even was an earthquake near here yesterday so it is California on steroids. It is supposed to be the same for the next week.
Yesterday we had lunch at the Stony Creek Inn and had steamed crabs
(photo left).
It turns out that this hole-in-the-wall was on the "Diners, Dives, and
Drive-ins" show. It was really an experience but can't hold a candle
to Dungeness crabs.
We are trying to stay in the marina for the weekend and then will probably go to the Baltimore Inner Harbor during the week. We took the boat out this afternoon to visit Stony Creek, one of the inlets close by which comes off the Potopsko River. There are houses lining the creek, each with a dock, and most of the boats seem to be up on lifts.
Our TV is not working out well, we get 2 channels which
show mostly Entertainment Tonight type shows but were able to see the Tahoe
golf tournament and Baltimore/Toronto baseball game.
