July 7 - We Move the Boat to Chesapeake Bay
Today
was our last haul with the boat, getting us to the Baltimore area.
Yesterday we drove North to Albany to get our truck and trailer, drove back
to Newburgh and put the boat on the trailer. Then we began a long,
grueling drive through rush hour traffic to the Jersey Turnpike. A
sympathetic desk agent let us sneak Becka into a room even though there was
a no pet policy and we lived in fear of a barking spell that would get us
kicked out. This morning we drove the Turnpike down through Baltimore
to meet the broker who will help us sell the boat when we are finished with
this trip. He helped us find a beautiful marina (photo left) where the
manager was very helpful in getting the boat into the water and we have
rented a slip here for one month, storing the trailer. It will serve
as a base for our short trips around the Bay and we will have our car to get
us around on land- and play some golf, also. We are ten miles from
Baltimore's inner harbor and 20 miles from Annapolis. There are so
many boats- marinas everywhere, boats on trailers in every driveway and
boats on the water in front of every house. We celebrated getting all
situated by going to happy hour at a nearby marina.
With temperatures over 100 for the second day in a row, we are looking
forward to a slight decrease tomorrow and maybe some thunderstorms in the
next few days. Maybe we will go exploring in the air conditioned car
tomorrow.
